About The Genealogy Gent

Hello, my name is Richard Langford and I am a Kerryman, a North Kerryman to be more precise. I am fortunate to have been born and bred in one of the greatest places in the world. John B. Keane, the widely acclaimed playwright and raconteur, lived but a few miles away from my home and it was he that explained just what it means to be a Kerryman.

"Being a Kerryman, in my opinion, is the greatest gift that God can bestow on any man. When you belong to Kerry you know you have a head start on the other fellow. It is almost unbearable being a Kerryman and it is an awesome responsibility."

I have always had a keen interest in genealogy and initially didn't fully appreciate just how easy I had it when it came to researching my own family. Just inside the gate of our local graveyard there is a large tomb which holds the remains of my ancestors going back to the early 1800s. The various inscriptions tell me just who my family were and I can easily connect the dots. In one way, it is satisfying to have all that information laid out in front of me, but in another way, it almost takes the fun out of it! However, it was when I began tracing the ancestry of other families that I soon realised not every family has it as easy and there are many challenges to providing a detailed history for their ancestors.
